- Ben and I have been married since September of 2006. A couple months later, we bought a house in Tooele, UT where we still reside. On July 1, 2008, we had our first baby. Miles is a beautiful and very bright little boy, and he has something new and exciting to show us every day. Two years later, almost to the day we had another little boy, Conan, who certainly keeps us on our feet. He is full of energy (and chubbiness), and we couldn't love him more.
What is Shone's Syndrome?
Shone's syndrome is characterized by four or more cardiac defects on the left side of the heart. Typical defects are a supravalve mitral membrane (SVMM), parachute mitral valve, subaortic stenosis (membranous or muscular) and coarctation of the aorta. Essentially, it is both a left ventricular inflow and outflow obstruction. The prognosis is inversely related to the degree of obstruction caused by the SVMM. The SVMM is also first to develop and likely causes the development of the other three defects. Essentially it is also a stynosis or restriction of the aortic valve.
